I've had Bose speakers myself (for my home theater) and can confirm that they are too expensive for what you get. I think Bose did a great job with marketing and that's about it. They've convinced people that they've got high quality speakers. I'll never buy them again, especially not after hearing good speakers from Paradigm, Infinity, and NHT. Oh yeah, Velodyne makes great subwoofers.
In regards to car audio, without getting into aftermarket components, the best sound system I've heard in a stock car is the Mark Levinson system in the Lexus LS which is just heaven.

Bose is standard on A8.. the upgrade is Bang and Ofulsen which is standard on the S8..
