I watched a rerun of Top Gear last night w/the GTR and I'm curious how "enthusiasts" like those on this board like it. I'm not looking for feedback on the looks of it, which is so subjective, but after being in an M3 and M6 recently, I am evaluating that market. How does it handle, accelerate, ride, etc. Could it be a daily driver (to the extent an M3 or M6 could be)? Thx.

It really difficult to get a chance to drive these since the transmissions are always broken

There are 3 of them in my area, but I doubt that it could be a daily driver...

Nice GTR and the price is super considering the mods, but i wonder what's the catch?! He states that "The only downfall till today is the automatic transmision. " Does it mean it's pretty much broken?

If it is broken or getting ready too. A new tranny will cost $20,000. Tranny is the weak point in the GTR.

ive had the chance to drive one and let me explain it in one word... awesome!!!!
my cousin has one and he was telling me the trans had bad software which would let the launch control launch too high, thus breaking trannys. now they revised the software and have lowered the RPM at which the car launches so its all fixed. the trans feels as glitchy as our M5's, but shifts about 100000 times faster lol

hey mate. ive driven one.

Dont let all those idiots convince you there is something wrong with the tranny.

first of all watch this >

this will set some facts straight.

My comments:
acceleration: f*cking hell its damn quick. It will be quicker than an m6 and a cl65 for that matter until 210km/h or thereabouts.
The transmission is amazing and is very quick. It is spot on up and downshifting. I have had the pleasure of driving this and a chipped 997 turbo (automatic and 540bhp), and the GT-R is quicker till about 200. If you both just go from standstill (no hard starts and no launch control) the GT-R will be about 4 cars ahead till 200. Then unfortunately it falters compared to the turbo. at 250 the turbo is neck and neck and by 280 the turbo will be a couple of cars away. We only raced to 292km/h (180mph?) so i cant tell you how it would have gone otherwise.

As for the handling, the owner of the two cars took me for a nice spin on one of our highways (if you can call it that). It is interesing that the turbo averaged around 250-265km/h in the turns and you could feel the chassis struggling to change direction in a consistent manner. On some occasions the front tires lost grip. The NISSAN on the other hand took the whole route with 280km/h+ and by god, it really was like a computer game. The way it changes direction is absolutely ridiculous.

p.s. its a far better daily driver than the m3 and m6... and it will rip them apart if it has to...

i also recorded a vid of the nissan (stock 480bhp, not even updated software) against my CLS55AMG (505bhp) from 60-210km/h... the nissan beat me by 4 lenghts

Nope, but it must handle well since there are no adaptive headlights since the car corners too fast for them to catch up. Or so I heard, I think, from Clarkson himself.

It just doesn't seem to be worth it as a daily driver. Like people have mentioned before, $20k for a new tranny that is prone to break anyways. I dunno.
