Or.. he could have been trying too hard and lost traction. It's hard to grip 400+ lb/ft of torque.

I would bet a considerable sum that the Merc was not trying off the line. They go like crazy off the line.

I B GR8. My G Meter is still in my glove box. haha Starting to think I should just sell it. Haven't followed the G Meter discussions for a while. So what was your fastest time?

I assumed the poster would have noticed if all that wheel spinning was going on, but ....?

Of the reasonably priced fast sedans I mentioned in my "Next Cars: Quandry" thread, I think the B5, the M5, and the CLS AMG are the best looking. The E55 AMG is still good looking, but, as you say, dated. Maybe there will be an update before two more years. I'd still get even the E55 before the M5 for all the reasons I mentioned in the "Next Cars" thread and because of the straight-line performance issue.

I've been MB fan for a long time ever since I had one when turned 16 back home in Russia. Brand spanking new 300E (124) it was the best MB ever came out with later had tricked out 190E that noone could beat in the city, bimmers of that era 5th handled like crap compare to MB. Car would go where you look with easy and was so ballanced, now a days MB has lost it and its painfull to see that happening to them. My favorite of all time was S600 (140) if you remember them , people who drove those monsters were untouchable except that sometimes you could hear on the morning news that some tycoon was found burned in his 600 . Anyway my point is MB keep loosing its spirit or charachter I'd say but I could be wrong, in terms of CLS thats one beautiful car my friend, was driving next to Black CLS amg the other day and it was gorgeous car.

CLS is great looking, but how practical is it for a four door. E55 AMG is quite generic and interior is just okay. Outside of the two seaters and new S class, the line looks really bland.

All this AMG talk has me in terror. Afraid to pull my 550 out.

The small, low-head-room rear seats of the CLS are no problem for us. Dachshunds are very short with really short legs.
