Porsche just released details on the 2010 911 Turbo. It now has PDK as an option, and if you take PDK it now has paddle shifters rather than the wheel mounted toggles on the current 997.2 cars with PDK. It also marks the debut of the new DFI engines which replace the tried and tested GT1-derived block in the prior 911 Turbo models.

What's most interesting, though, is the performance. With PDK and Sport Chrono (which factory enables over-boost), the 911 Turbo's official 0 to 60mph time is 3.2 seconds. Since Porsche understates its official performance numbers on all of its models, this is going to be a 3 second (and potentially sub 3 second) car. The AWD on the Turbo is also recalibrated to have a much greater RWD bias. As it stands, this car is probably going to be as quick or even quicker than the current GT2.

Sounds cool, so when do you trade yours in? Hard to pass up a potentially sub-3 sec car . BTW, you know Porsches are not my favorite cars, but that performance is truly staggering!! I'm serious, when are you trading up?

I think that Steve has set his sights on the Panamera. I sure wouldn't mind the Panamera Turbo myself but way out of my financial reach.

As dream car something with sub-3 sec 0-60 is amazing!! The Panamera? We will have to agree to disagree, looks too much like the Quattroporte Maserati too me.

I'd probably be more than happy with either! Always wanted a 911 Turbo, but I'm very interested in the Panamera too.

My only issue is my eldest is getting very close to college...

Yes that could put a crimp in plans for a 911 Turbo or Panamera Turbo.

Yes swajames, you beat me to it. You either are subscribed to Porsche news, or religiously check Porsche home page on a daily basis

Now, about the Turbo mk II:

I expected the design to suffer some more 'radical' changes, more aggressive but nothing like this. For example i find the Porsche 911 GT3 mk II changes much more aggressive than mk I. I also head the same thing will be applied to the GT3 RS, featuring a near identical FIA GT series wing So the "changes" in design were a bit of a disappointment.

Also what was a disappointment is the power of the mk II Turbo: only 20 more bhp than the MK I !!! I expected at least the same output of the current GT2, if not more.

Finally though, the long waited PDK found it's way in the Turbo. This should be a sensation! Looking at the numbers 3.4 sec for 0-100 km/h is truly outstanding. The dynamic engine mounts are a warm welcome also. Also welcome (talking from own experience) is the new feature that allows a rear wheel to independently get more torque than the other inner wheel. This similar system was deployed in the X6 as an option and let me tell you it's worth every penny, and you can really feel it work on tight bends even in a 2.3 tone car.

Conclusion: Nice but if only they would fit the PDK to the GT3 and for me it would be a no brainer. I can't quite look at the GT3 as an only manual car. Pity!
