Get the 545.. The Jag has had a facelift but is outdated by the E60... Interior of the Jag looks like 1990 and is too much plastic and way more Ford...
Don't know your age but the Jaguar is a bit for older man that didn't make it to an XJ (hope I didn't offend you)...

Well, i personally do not like the new jags. I think the 545 looks a lot better. I would go with the 545i.

I tried to keep up with one of these in my 530d once. It absolutely thrashed me, lol.
*Very* understated (looks a lot like the regular S-types). You have to be a fan of the interiors though, I'm not. I couldn't think of an interior more opposed to that of the e60.
Jags have a better image in the States than over here though. The only really good one is the Aluminium XJ, and the depreciation is epic on all of them.

Keep in mind that you are in an e60 forum so opinions may be slanted.
I've always thought the S type Jag was a good looking car and although others may complain about the interior, I'd argue that the S type has better materials throughout.
With 390hp, it may take the 545 in straightline performance, but that's where I think it would end. The 545 is a superior handling car and rewards the driver with each drive.
If you just want a fast car just to cruise in however, the Jag may be your car. I do believe I'd take an e500, A6 or even a lexus in front of it though.

I agree.. Especially the E500 has a special place in my hart (my dad has a ML500) and the engine is mmmmhhhhh..
I was looking into a second hand E500 before I bought my 530..

i think in this price range, nothing handles better than a e60 . imo, s-type doesn't have the sport-luxury feel and look . jaguar wanted to make it more a luxury car instead of a sport/sport-luxury at the very beginning. besides the age group, i've seen majority of the s-type drivers are women . also, jag's depreciation rate is probably one of the reasons why they sell less than other luxury brands . stick w/the 545, you won't regret .

It depends on your age and how long you want to keep your car. I am 35 yrs. old, and among my peers BMW and Porsche are the cars to own, with Audi third. These cars are very sporty. The 545 is a new design that I feel was ahead of its time, and in a few years the rest of the world will catch up with the look.
The S-Type is a car my dad would like to own, he finds the 545 to "different." The S-Type is car that has been around for a while and needs a new model. As far as performance, lets all be practical (and this applies to M-types to). You cannot really appreciate these cars (M5, S -Type R) unless you take them to a track. Sure, in a S-Type R you can blow off some teenager in a supercharged Honda, but how much fun is that?
