My Ride: 2004 E60 525d M Sport, Mystic Blue Adaptive Xenon's (Visibility Package), Grey Dakota Leather, Professional Navigation System, BMW Professional Radio/6 Disc CD Changer, Bluetooth Telephone Prearation, (Media Package)Automatic Air Conditioning-Advanced, Auto Dim Interior and Exterior (Electric Folding) Mirrors, Front Seat Heating
I live about 60 miles from where the Lotus factory is, so I get to see quite a lot of them! I'd go for the esprit, it's a lovely car, and although it's pretty old, it's tried and tested so a recent example should be good.
I can tell you from hearing them blast down the road that they are super quick, and sound incredible! Much more exclusive than a 911/NSX etc. Depends if you buy with your head, or your heart.

Thank you everyone, for your responses! Against my better judgement, I've decided to go with the Lotus. I must say after driving it on Friday, nothing compares to the feeling I got while behind the wheel. It made everything else seem, well, ordinary. It was sensory overload to the extreme... Yes, I know it looks like a 1989 Countach, the steering wheel is a big block more suited to a 1994 Acura Legend, and maintenance will drive me to the poor house. But, Converted2BMW put it best ... "I'm buying with my heart", and dammit, it feels GOOD! I'm picking the car up on Saturday, will post pics soon... Cheers!

Many of the best things are "irrational" and I'm glad to see that you bought what you like.
