Yeah baby! Im (car)mobile! haha!! Its the small things that count!

$231 dollars later and I am BT enabled! I am at work now, but can't wait to get out and call the dealer I bought the car from to tell them they were wrong!

Thanks so much for your suggestions/comments.

Bill
awesome!!! I have a feeling I might have to shell out the cash to get it enable, my local dealer sucks and the nearest other dealer is over 100 miles away.

BillMcC, Congrats!!

One question, Does your iDrive communication settings show that you have a CTP-9000 phone or does it show Bluetooth?

My car has been at the dealer all day today and they expect to keep it most of tomorrow tying to get either the TCU to support BT or to program the CTP-9000 and use the BTUM I purchased.

I'm not sure if the dealer is clueless, but at the end of the day they called me and said they don't think my TCU will support BT. Given I told them it wont due to the BMW SIB and my production date of 01/04. Thats why I purchased the BTUM and CTP-9000 cradle.
I hope they don't call me at the end of 2 days with my car and tell me I need to upgrade ($$$) to a MY2005 TCU in order to have BT. Clueless!

I will post what happens.

Hi OU812545, yes when I scroll through Idrive it says Bluetooth. Sorry you are having difficulty...I think we need to get both of our dealers logged onto this forum! This site could definitely teach them a few things!

Two years ago when some of us early adopters were trying to get Bt working in our cars, this was the only reference site available. I even knew of Service Advisors reading the posts here as they could not get info out of BMW!!

This forum is amazing. I would never have MP3 or soon to have BT in my car if it wasn't for this forum.

Any thoughts on if I should just call the dealer and tell them to abandon trying to get BT to work with my non-BT supported TCU (production date 01/04) and do what I originaly asked them to do which is program the car for the CTP-9000 phone so I can use the BTUM?

You are basically out of luck on getting BT to work on the older TCU. It will need to be replaced if it is the original TCU in the car.

It is dissapointing to know that there still are dealers that have little or no knowledge of the information in the SIB's from 18 months ago.

If your dealer will replace the TCU for your for free, why not, it is less expensive for you. If you have to pay for the TCU, go with the BTUM. Either way, you will not be able to use a cradle to charge your phone in the car. You wll need to use a charger plugged into a lighter or power outlet.

I even gave them the printed SIB on this topic.
I will not be happy with them if they tell me I need to pay for a new TCU. Keeping my car for two days and telling me what I already know will drive me crazy.

The BMW satisfaction survey is helpful. I gave my SA a 4 out of 5 for the fact that he new nothing about the MP3 retrofit and he was not happy and said it would affect his porformance review and pay. Anything less than a 5 is failing.

I do have a question:
If for some reason the dealer does replace the TCU at no cost to me, can I replace my CPT-9000 v60 cradle for one that holds the Razr and only use it for charging? If possible that would be nice. A place to put the phone and charge it.

Nope. The wiring in your car will not charge any phone other than a CPT 9000. I found that out after a three day visit to the shop trying to install a cradle for my T637.

2005 MY vehicles were wired differently I believe.

Thanks, that will save me money on trying that option. I'm sure the dealer would not know if it would work.

Thanks
