Huh? That link was for UUronL, it had to do with BT hacking...

The BT passcode on the car is user defined -- you enter the same code (that you make up) on both the phone and the car and you're paired. If, for some reason, your phone has a default passcode of 0000, then that's what you have to dial-in on the car...

No, I had read that thread. The malicious activity in the BT space is pretty nascent, but that's the basic workflow. This doc goes into the math and nuts and bolts of tricking devices into a re-pairing.

There are some more harmless attacks that leverage devices running code that doesn't require authentication for OBEX gets/puts when they should, but I'd imagine the E60 has patched this if it was ever broken in the first place.

The BT community is working on support for longer PINs, and the addition of alpha characters. At some point we may get that option on our cars.

You can use a single digit if you'd like - doesn;t need to be a 4 number pin - as long as they match on the phone and the bluetooth set up.

Isn't the code the same one you use when you activate the Bluetooth feature of your phone?? The suggestions I've read are to use 1234 for your phone and 1234 for pairing with the car.? (But you can use any four digits--just input them on the phone first, then the car.)? If this doesn't work let me know, because I'm about to pair my new Razr to my car.

Once it asks if you want to connect, select "add device" and press controller.
Enter a code--any number up to 16 digits.
Enter same code on your phone
You will see your phone listed on the screen
Phone will ask if you want to accept connection
Press yes and exit idrive menu
Turn ignition off
Turn ignition on. Phone will be connected and will transfer phonebook entries to the car--this could take some time depending on how many entries in your phonebook.
Good luck--worked like a charm for me

If I remember correctly, the sequence on your phone is:
Menu > settings > connection > bluetooth link > handsfree
At that point I think your phone will show BMWXXXX (last digits of your VIN) and ask for a pin. Input 1234 or whatever you used on the car.
Good luck!

I had this problem after my Blackberry 7250 got reset, I could not get it to "Re-Pair" with my '06 525i Bluetooth. It ends up that you have to delete the existing pairing and re-add it. The first time I had the problem I took it to the dealer and big/bang this young kid had it done...then a couple of weeks later due to some BB problems I was having, my phone got reset again! So I messed around with the iDrive and figured out how to delete the pairing... Then, once deleted you need to add a new pair, just follow the instructions given here already...just make up a password but it has to be the same on both phone and iDrive. This is needed if your phone bluetooth device gets disturbed. I have had to do it twice unfortunately but now all is well.

Good luck.

Mark
