What is the Bluetooth Passcode?

My Ride: 2005 530i; Silver Gray; Sports and Premium Package; SAT radio; AUX input.
I need to reinstall a bluetooth phone and forgot what the passcode was the for the 2005 BMW 530i. Can anyone refresh my memory? Thanks.

Isn't the code the same one you use when you activate the Bluetooth feature of your phone? The suggestions I've read are to use 1234 for your phone and 1234 for pairing with the car. (But you can use any four digits--just input them on the phone first, then the car.) If this doesn't work let me know, because I'm about to pair my new Razr to my car.

Its the one that you enter during setup on i-drive it can be any 4 digit group you choose at that time, then you enter it on the phone and it pairs with the phone.

Thanks. It worked by simply using 0000. I think it can be a randome one, as long as you put the same one you did on your phone. Thanks again.

[/quote]I can't wait for the longer alpha-num pin support. Current brute-force attacks used to derive the PIN from a snooped pairing session break down once you exceed a 64 bit PIN (19 decimal digits).
A lowly 3Ghz Pentium 4 PC can brute-force PINs in this amount of time:
Pin length of 4 - .063 seconds
Pin length of 5 - .75 seconds
Pin length of 6 - 7.609 seconds
Pin length of 7 - 76.127 seconds
A workflow of an attack would look something like this:
-Use Redfang to "bruteforce find" an undiscoverable bluetooth device
-The attacker injects signaling messages that signify one of the devices requires a repairing. This can be done in a few ways.
-Using a Bluetooth sniffer, the pairing sequence is captured
-The PIN is forceably derived from the captured pairing data
Fortunately, the hardware required to insert the special messages to force the repairing isn't readily available. Also, bluetooth sniffers are quite costly and unlike other IT sniffers have not trickled into the freeware space. Yet.
If you find your devices asking you to repair for no apparent reason, don't do it until you can get in as private and deserted a place as possible.

The BT passcode on the car is user defined -- you enter the same code (that you make up) on both the phone and the car and you're paired. If, for some reason, your phone has a default passcode of 0000, then that's what you have to dial-in on the car...
