Hi all,
I'm a long time reader of this excelent forum, and finally decided to upgrade my status from "read-only" to newbie.
So here's the motivation for my first post:
I was told by the dealer that I couldn't have voice control because of an incompatibility issue with the professional phone.
So I decided to keep the phone, and wait for a s/w fix that allowed both.
Can anyone confirm this issue, or (much better) does anyone has pro phone *and* voice control ?
Cheers.

Hi, welcome to the forums seakat.
I think your lack of voice control is down to the fact you have Professional Navigation, not the phone. There is a well documented (on these boards) s/w incompatibility that affected various countries in Europe. When was your car built?
New builds can now have both. Check the recent post from Doctor Diesel too. He is trying to get voice recognition retrofitted to his car at the moment.
EDIT: Nice spec by the way

Thanks browllm.
Probably the dealer gave me the correct information at the time, I've been so excited with the car that I forgot pro nav was the issue, and not pro phone.
My build date is June 2004 - just added it to the sig., be patient with the newbie
Just read Doctor Diesel post, I'm anxiously waiting for the outcome.

However, extended voice control of all the other i-drive functions, which was supposed to be included *as standard* with Professional Navigation, was deleted from the brochures in many European countries because of s/w incompatibilities.
You can now order it again, but it's become an optional extra.

[/quote]Check! Now I know why it was not in most brochures.
BTW, I ordered voice rec. as an option on my 545i ( no charge ) it works on all
the I-Drive modes, not only phone option.
It's excellent and easy...( although it's in German!!!...still learning ! )

Yeah that sounds correct - the German one was working, hence Iceman had his voice recog. well before most European people on this board.
IIRC, it was the UK English speech recognition s/w that was at fault. I have a copy of the BMW announcent from the dealer tucked away somewhere.
