The Verizon Blackberry Pearl 8130 is out this week. According to the Verizon site, it is not compatible with BMW kits. However, there are currently compatible Blackberrys that are listed as not compatible as well.

Has anybody hooked one of these up yet? Any thoughts? I have a 1-05 date of production 530.

Thanks

sharpgator,

I'm considering the same phone through Verizon (I currently have a BB Pearl, through AT&T, and it works just fine). I don't know how often the compatability lists get updated, but Verizon's 8130 list must be pretty current since the phone was just released.

Why don't you go by a Verizon store and they'll let you do a test "pair up" with your car.

Let me know what you find out - I'm particularly interested in phonebook transfer and signal strength meter compatability. Good luck.

I have a question about BB Pearl (AT&T) and BMW BT: I paired my phone and it works just fine, but only the first 5 or so entries under each letter in my address book will load into the iDrive. Is this due to a memory limitation or something? If so, is there any way to store my most frequently called numbers, or change which ones it uploads? Often the most frequently called numbers are not among the first 5 alphabetically under each letter.

Blackberrys usually don't act this way -- I've paired a Pearl and an 8700c (both AT&T) with full contact transfer on both of my cars. There are only two issues I'm aware of with BBs and the E60. The first issue deals with the amount of contacts. Around 1500, the car runs out of memory for caching the entries so you end up with a partial listing that simply ends at a specific entry (alphabetically). The second issue deals with contact "groups" that can be setup on the BB. The car doesn't like them at all and won't allow contact transfer to occur beyond the first group it finds. (Actually, once it hits the first group, it doesn't transfer that record and any record past it -- again, alphabetically speaking...)

Your problem sounds like a different one and it's the first time I remember hearing anything like that. Maybe there's someone else here who can shed some light on things...

Verizon does extensive testing. If they say it's not compatible, it probably isn't. Compatibility is not always self-evident in one test, that's for sure.

Answering my own question. Due to the fact that so many BB's work with BMW, I took the leap and ordered the Verizon 8130. It paired perfectly and has had ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES. I have about 550 contacts in my address book and it seems that all of them transferred. So far, it is the best phone I have had re: its performance with BMW bluetooth.

Hope this helps.

There's no question that BlackBerrys seem to play very nicely with the E60...

OK, Just Kidding...I had a problem come up. Started a separate topic in the Bluetooth & Cell Phone Forum.
