I have a Treo 650 and have it paired with my '08 535i. It receives calls fine, but will only make a call if I dial it through the phone 1st. I noticed the contacts from the Treo do not come over to the BMW when paired...is there any way I can upload my contacts to the BMW from the Treo..or am I just SOL as it is not compatible?
Also, if this is the case can I manually enter phone numbers and store them in the BMW's address book...or does the BMW simply pull data from the phone each time it is paired?

My wife also has the 650. After some tinkering what we finally have is most of her contacts entered in her speed dials on the Treo. Those show up on list in the car for some reason. You can also use the Calls Dialed and Calls Received to store numbers. frequent callers are stored on the 6 button presets.
That seems to be the best you can do with the Treo but the 650 is better than the 700 or 750 as I understand it.

To quickly answer your general question about varying degrees of compatibility...
Bluetooth has a set of constructs called "profiles".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_profile
Each profile performs a function. When devices are paired, they communicate using these profiles. While I do not know the specifics of the Palm 650 Bluetooth "stack", it would appear that it does not include the PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile).
