I recently had TCU replaced due to some issues with the car, and my CPT9000 is in there too.
However, they told me my car is not prewired to have the new TCU use bluetooth, so the CPT9000
is still needed. I have January 2004 production, so I thought it is already prewired in the car.
Please let me know... if my TCU can handle Bluetooth, then I can get rid of CPT9000 BTUM kit so
someone else can benefit from this kit instead of me if his car is 2003 production.

Thanks again guys!!
Cheers

According to the BT bulletin in this post:

It seems like as long as you have the MY2005 TCU it should work. Then again, this stuff is so compicated that I'm not sure what's right anymore...

I installed the CPT9000 eject box and BTUM in my 12/03 545. Dealer succesfully performed the S/W retrofit for the eject box but could not get the car to upgrade to the latest CIP. After a month, dealer replaced the TCU. When I picked the car up I was told I still needed the CPT9000 eject box and BTUM for bluetooth. I asked for the part number of the replacement TCU and was given 84106978660. I was a little surprised because I expected the TCU part number to be 84106978659. On the way home I noticed that the LED on the BTUM was not lit, but my phone was paired. When I got home I removed the BTUM and phone was still paired. I then removed the eject box and as I expected everything still worked great. I then looked up the part number and determined that the ....8660 replacement TCU was an MY05 TCU and thus had integrated bluetooth. I was able to return all the unnecessary components I had purchased.

Thanks guys!! I will try to determine the TCU number... I just worry they didn't install the Bluetooth software in the car... but the CPT9000 software, so when pairing, the blue light on the BTUM is on... if i remove it, it won't pair... any other way of testing whether if the TCU is the MY2005 version? thanks again!!

You could always look at the part number on the TCU, I suppose...

If you have the 2005 TCU, the BTUM will not even be powered. As such, the led will never illuminate. Something about not being able to use the eject box because the wiring is incompatible. I thought that the retrofit was needed to tell the idrive that the car has a CPT9000 cell phone. I didn't think there was special bluetooth programing involved. My understanding is that the car treats the BTUM as a CP9000/V60i cellphone and provides the idrive capability that would be associated with that phone.
I could be wrong.
