I really doubt it.

But for these kind of matters I should contact BMW direct,
not only your local dealer.

it will depend on the windows mobile build the phone comes with. I am using a PPC6700 from sprint, which is an Audiovox (Harrier) phone and I could initially pair the phone, but no phonebook transfer, but after sprint released a new build it works really well, phonebook transfer, etc...

I went to the T-Mobile store last week.

The sales clerk and I paired his new MDA with my 545i.

The pairing was successful, but the MDA would not work with the BMW bluetooth. It simply would not connect.

iDrive just said... Please Activate Phone.

I have researched this a bit on some other forums, and discovered that the MDA is sold by other carriers under different names. Other carriers have already released ROM updates.... and their users claim to be able to use their devices with BMW Bluetooth.

However, I will not buy ANY phone until I have actually watched it work myself. So until T-Mobile gets that ROM update.... and I visit the store again and pair a MDA.... and it works... that's the only time I will buy one.

Microsoft finally fixed the problems with Windows Mobile devices and BMW cars mid last year. Given the time it takes for OEMs and carriers to bring the devices to market the ones that work are have just come on the market.

The short answer is that almost all Windows Mobile 5 devices will work properly. I say almost because they need to have the first update to WM 5 internally called AKU 1.1. That's where the fixes were added.

No Windows Mobile 2003 or WM 2003 Second Edition devices will work correctly unless the have a 3rd party Bluetooth stack. In that case, its up to the vendor.

My i-mate K-JAM works with my 545 quite nicely. It has WM 5.0 AKU 1. The os build number on my device is 14402. You can find your build number in the About dialog box in the control panel.

I will go to the T-Mobile store tomorrow, and ask to see the About screen for the OS version.

However, I find it odd that you say this issue was resolved in 2005... yet the new MDA was released in February 2006, and I can tell you for certain that the one I used did not work.

All - you need to ensure whatever device you have has a build of Windows Mobile 5.0 that is AKU 1.1 or greater - that's where the fixes are

Tocheck this go to - Start...Settings...About on the device and ensure the build is

Windows Mobile 5.0 14xxx.1.1.0 or greater - then 1.1 piece should be 1.1 or greater

So the MDA is AKU 1.0. Therefore I was correct all along. The MDA does not work with BMW bluetooth. Not yet, at least.
