I have a Treo 650 and have been using it in my 04 545 for over a year now.

My only complaint is that caller's find the sound quality so bad they can't hardly understand what I'm saying. So, for important calls, I have to cancel hands-free and hold the phone to talk.

I've asked my local dealer to replace the mics, but they checked it out and didn't have any problem hearing on the other end (not sure that they drove and called or tested it when the car was parked - probably the latter). So, the original mics stayed.

Has anyone else had this issue and, if so, did you find a fix?

Try switching to Suffix calling

I searched for "suffix calling" in the forum and found a couple of references.

There was a mention that when the i-drive is pressed during a call that the menu that pops up includes a command for "suffix calling". Unfortunately, I did not see that command when I tried it.

Does anyone have this command in the US?

If you press the idrive down during a call you can activate suffix DIALLING, which lets you use automated services (i.e. to speak to an agent - press 1), but I've never heard of suffix CALLING.

The microphone quality in my car is very poor - it is much more directional than a typical car kit mike, so it will not pick up a front seat passenger or the driver if you are not facing toward it.

If you speak clearly toward the mic it works well, but when you are driving that is not always possible - so for instance, when you are looking left at a juntion, your caller will lose you.

Frustrating .. when the kit is so expensive.

Same issue, yes. Found a fix, no. Same experience at the dealer as you.

I had the same issue for 3 months. My bluetooth worked fine for a while then became increasingly fuzzy for the person on the other end. The sound inside the car was perfect - but the person on the other end always complained of my voice being very distant and crackling.

SOLUTION: I've just had a BMW software upgrade and its back to new again. Pester your dealer to upgrade your software.. it worked for me..!

I've had my 2005 525i now for 3 days. My BT phone worked perfectly with voice command and all from the start. However, this morning I was having a great deal of difficulity getting the bt voice command to work and when I used the BT the caller could barely hear me - said sounded like a lot of flutter and whining noise, yet I could hear them perfectly. As soon as I turned off the motor, it worked perfectly (both Commands and call). This went on all day, until this evening and now it works perfectly. I think the problem is a loose noise filter (capacitor) somewhere in the engine or audio system. I will be taking the car in next week, but since it is intermittent they may never find it. By the way I was going to have an Aux audio input installed until the dealer (Irvine BMW) quoted me over $500!

They may have thought you meant the ipod interface and not the aux in. The aux in should only cost around $200, the ipod interface is between $500-600 I believe.

No. They wanted around $700-$800 for the ipod interface!
