Looking at getting the Snap-in Adapter for my Motorola V551/V600 bluetooth mobile.

Does this "unit" just plug into the universal adapter in the car's armrest or does the service department need put in time to install the adapter (84 21 0 307 726) so that it links up with the car for power and external antenna?

I have the same phone and got the same issue/question. Haven't had a whole lot of luck with the dealer but finally tracked down someone in the service dept who apparently knows what to do, if I get any news I'll post it. They did tell me that one customer had purchased the V551/V600 cradle etc but was going to install it themselves and report back to the parts dept with their experience, hopefully they will call soon and I'll post here when they do.

I bought the Nokia 6310 snap in and had a challenge fitting it. When you know how it works its simple. I was forced to change phone and now have a V620. Bought the V600 snap-in and installed it in about 5 seconds. Its push in simple.

If your cars are the same as those in the UK all you have to do is remove the blank plastic panel underneath the armrest by pressing the release button at the front, lift it off then put your adapter in its place. No need for workshop assistance on this.

Pardon my ignorance here but when you do that does it make the connection to the antenna and also power the phone when it's in the cradle?

I have a US model. I don't see a release button that would allow me to remve the lid on the inside tray, nor do I see any electrical connection for the snap in adapter. Could someone post some photos?

Sorry if I have caused any confusion to owners in the US or Canada. In the UK at least if you factory order the Bluetooth option the car comes pre-wired with the phone cradle system beneath the armrest. As BMW do not know what type of phone you have the unit is supplied with a "blanking" plate that sits in the cradle where the snap in connector which is phone model specific goes. All we have to do is buy the correct snap in adapter from the dealer and swap out the blanking plate.

From the photo's shown it looks like cars in NA possibly don't have the cradle fitted from the factory (unless the car shown has had a bluetooth retrofit as opposed to factory install?).

Does anyone have the BMW parts number for the V551 cradle (in the US)?
If I have the parts number, my dealer might actually find and order it...
