05 545 and I like to think I know a lot about these cars, but I know nothing about getting my Bluetooth capability to operate. Do I need to activate or enable some particular software? What's the next step for a guy who's in the dark here? Thanks in advance for your help.

Go to information section of this forum, there is a PDF file named- Telephone Manual, print a copy and use this manual along with the manual that you got with your Razr Cell phone. Use your Cell phone manual to prepare your Cell phone to pair under Bluetooth Section, use the telephone manual found in this forum
to prepare your E60 for pairing and away you go.

It is quite simple if you follow the instructions.
