Sick of having the P910i and not work with my BMW 645 Bluetooth, and Sonyericsson ignoring that, not making it compatible. I started to try new Smartphones to replace the P910.

I had a long list of phones to try so I started with the Qtek 9100 and to my surprise it worked well and the phonebook transfered completely (around 200 contacts) in less than a minute.

I made a lot of tests with it trying to get it to fail and it never did. For now it works great. It is different than the P910 and I will take some time to get used to it, but only for the fact that it works with BMW BT is a reason for me to make the change.

I know that the P990 was already announced and that it will be launched in Q1 of 2006, but since the P800 (which I had) that Sonyericsson had complaints that it didn't work with the BMW BT and they didn't do nothing, then the P900(which I had also) was released and it was the same story as the P800. After that the P910(which I have/had) was the same. So I don't have any hope that the new P990 will ever work with the BMW BT.

I've sent once an email to Sonyericsson about this situation and they didn't even bother to reply!!!

When I connected the Qtek 9100 and it worked right away. My first thought was:
"Is it so difficult for Sonyericsson to make the P910 do this???" <_<

I also posted this in the roadfly 6 Series forum.

That's good to hear. Can you tell us how multiple phone numbers for the same contact are displayed in the iDrive screen? And are the numbers transferred from the phone memory (i.e. Contacts) of from the SIM card or from both?

Does anyone know if there's a limit to the number of contacts that can be transferred to the BMW? I have about 1500!

I don't know if I have any contact with more than 2 phone numbers . I'll have to take a look on that.
But it transfers the 2 phone numbers of contacts that have both. One shows the name followed by (w) and the other by (h). I presume (w)ork and (h)ome.

It only transfered what is on the phone memory, that is what I am using on the phone.
I can try if I use both Sim card and Phone memory on the phone if it will transfer both to the car.

I don't know if there is a number of contacts limit.
Do you have 1500 contacts with multiple numbers. or 1500 phone numbers divided by a number of contacts?

When I said about 200 contacts is 200 contacts with multiple numbers.

I have about 1500 contacts, most of them with multiple numbers. Transferring from the Phone memory is what I am looking for, SIM transfer is not important. My SIM is empty anyway!

hi there RM666,

i'm looking for a smartphone that will work fine with the bmw bluetooth.
I tried a qtek 2020 and a 9090 and i wasn't able to connect it. I'm using SE T610 and MOTOROLA V55 and they work just fine. The reason i didn't bought yet a smartphone is that question. I will try the Qtek 9100. It's a recent model right ?

I am using a motorola E815, regular Bluetoothphone. I have many contacts that have 3 different numbers, Home, Office & Cell. On the I-Drive each name is repeated three times with the appropriate telephone number beside the name, unfortunately it does not denote which number is Home,Office or Cell. The reason for this is the Cell phone ( Moto) and nothing to do with BMW. I could get around this my entering a seperate contact for each phone number and then when I program the name into my Cell I could put the appropriate letter beside the contacts name i.E. H, O, C but this is to much of a pain and only have around 50 contacts and not all of them have multiple numbers.

My understanding of BLUETOOTH, is that the device that you pair it to , in this case E60, only reads your contact list from your Cell phone and displays it on the I-Drive screen. That is to say, your contact list is not stored anywhere in I - Drive. For instance, if you were in your car with cell phone on and contacts displayed in I-drive and you power off your Cell phone, the contacts displayed on your I-Drive would disappear
and be replace by a message, Please activate your phone.

Update on the Qtek 9100.

Although I hear people fine in my car people are complaining about how they hear me, it is distorting and it seems like I am far away. It has the same sound quality as my P910i had in the 50% of times it worked. I am trying to find out if there is any update that addresses this problem, if not I will try a I-mate K-Jam, same phone but with more updates.

I've also the SE 910i. It doesn't work. It pairs sometimes but it disconnect every 3 or 4 minutes.
I'm looking for a new smartphone with a cradle. Do you have any idea wich one works with BMW BT and has a cradle ?

Folks - The QTEK 9100 has a release of Windows Mobile 5 that has specific components to support the BMW Bluetooth - it's native in any device that uses Windows Mobile versions 14402 or greater (in settings...about)

Check out my blog posting at:

http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/200.../23/496368.aspx

In terms of contacts sync - it'll sync all numbers that the IDrive can support - I don't know what the capacity is there but it syncs both SIM and Contacts stored on the device
