Hi everyone,
My 2004 (build date of 2/25/04, no nav) 530i lost its mind on the road to Louisville KY a week ago. It started telling me I had flat tires (checked them with a pressure gauge and they were all fine), ringing the seatbelt chime over and over (try living with that on a 2 hour drive!), cutting my BMW Assist in and out and locking up my iDrive.
I took the car to my dealer and they couldn't find any fault codes. To their credit, they contacted BMW NA and shipped them some data from my car. When they analyzed it, it turned out I had a bad TCU - yee haw!
They replaced my TCU, updated me to 16.2 (apparently that was no cakewalk - they had to try it 3 times) and now... drumroll please ... I have bluetooth.
I have a Sprint Treo 650 and it works very nicely.
Thanks everyone for your pointers on here. Had I not known that my car's "old fashioned" (by 3 lousy days!) TCU was the problem, I wouldn't have been smart enough to ask them to add the bluetooth feature set once the replaced it.

[/quote]Apparently they decided I needed a new TCU when I reported that the BMW Assist was kicking in and out. The dealer tested it and it came back fine but when they sent a "dump" off to BMW NA, they saw other things that indicated a fault and they replaced it.
Other than still not being too sure how to correctly answer a call that comes in (do I click the iDrive or hit the little telephone button on the steering wheel), I'm making calls just fine on the thing.
