Password Problem Bluetooth Apple 3g to 2006 530XiT

I have a 2006 530 XiT and Apple iPhone 3G. My old iphone worked fine but on the new 3G the car "sees" the phone and vice versa but when I put in password on the phone and the car (for example 0000) they won't sych up. Any thoughts?

My Ride: 2006 530D SE; Mystic Blue; Beige Leather; Luxury Pack; Media Pack; Visibility Pack; 123's; Logic 7; + to many more to type...........
2008 730D; Black Sapphire; Cream Beige Leather; plenty of options!

I'm no expert, however according to the BMW document "Product Information Bluetooth - Tested Mobile Phones" - for Apple iPhones quote "Problem-free Bluetooth coupling of the mobile phone with the vehicle - Coupling with the Apple iPhone only possible with a 4- to 16-digit passkey."
Try a longer password perhaps....................
