My Ride: 2004 545i Titanium Silver, Black with anthrycite trim, premium interior, premium sound and cold packages, Nav, rear heated seats

I have a July 04 production 545i. I have not heard anything from my dealer about BT being ready for upgrade or install. I did have them check the version of the cars software, its 13.3, I've read that this is all they need to get it working but they seem to be unable to help me out at this time. Can someone give me a specific answer as to how I should proceed from here.

Thanks

PS, not my car in the picture, I just like it.

Okay, if its available do I need to purchase a bluetooth phone and sit in my car and "presto chango" It will work? Since I have 13.3? From one of the other threads, I read that it may not be necessary for the dealer to work on my car. I may be able to do this by myself. Is that correct?

Your dealer does not know what they are talking about. That particular BMW Center is both very lazy and ill-informed. Bluetooth has been discussed in great detail here. Rather than rehash it again, I would encourage you to do a search for a very long thread discussing the first bluetooth retrofit in the US. Search for "bluetooth pharding". The information that you are looking for is there. The dealer does have a modest amount of work to do to set the car up properly for Bluetooth. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. As a new BMW owner, this has been frustrating. It isn't comforting when each dealer seems to have a different answer to this question. I would have thought BMW would have a central infromation database that would handle these kind of issues quickly and consistently. I'm dissapointed with this, but happy with the car.

Use this link to find the thread bymy January 17, 2005 post that includes a copy of the January 2005 BMWNA bulletin. The bulletin that tells the dealer how to activate your Bluetooth. The bulletin can be downloaded by the dealer on the BMW intranet, but you will do better if you bring it. Some dealers charge between $100 and $125. Some don't charge.

onefat99: Bluetooth is available for your car, but you will need a new Telematics Control Unit (TCU). This is apparently around $1900 or so. Good luck.
