My Ride: -2004 BMW 545i. Silver Grey Metalic. with Black Int.: Sport, Navigation, Cold Weather, Comfort Seats, Logic 7, Heated Rear Seats, MP3 Retrofit. (Production date: Jan 2004)
-2002 Porsche 911 Cabriolet. Seal Gray with Black Int. & Top: Tiptronic, Heated Seats, Bose Sound.
I have a 2004 545 Production date of 01/04 (Nav., Prem Sound, etc..) and want to have integrated BlueTooth.
First-off several dealers have already told that it is NOT possible with my production date of 01/04.
After reading and learning from this amazing forum, I now realize there are options for me to get bluetooth. In-fact two options:
1. Per SI B84 13 94: Pay the dealer to replace the CTU with the 2005 MY TCU.
2. Have the CPT9000 cradle installed and purchase a BTUM.
My questions are:
a.-Does anyone know how much option #1 could cost (approx)?
b.-Does anyone know how much option #2 could cost (including the cradle and installing it) (I do not have a cradle in my car)?
c.-Are there any differences in functionality or possible problems with future program updates with either option?
d.-Anyone have the cradle and BTUM for sale?
Thanks

I replaced my TCU for the simple reason that as phones are upgraded, the systems get better. DO you want to be stuck with a phone that is already 3 model years back? Just go a replace the TCU, I believe it ran me about $1700 BUT you will also get an entire software CIP upgrade when this is done

Are there any other benifits of going with the new TCU other than the BlueTooth?
Going with the v60 phone cradle and the BTUM should get me the same thing as far as BlueTooth goes, correct?
Thanks for you feedback

Yeah I just received the call from the dealer. The new TCU will be $1700 installed.

CanadaBat,
I just can came back from the dealer.
My two options:
1. Replace the TCU = $1700 installed
2. Add the phone cradle and BTUM (BlueTooth Upgrade Module) = $900 Installed.
Both provide pairing to the same number of and models of phones.
Per the dealer all the functions and capabilites are the same as Blue Tooth goes.
Per me, both options are pricey for bluetooth.
Am I missing something here. $900 sounds like the better deal unless the new TCU provides something else OR I was not provided the correct information.

With the BTUM module, you have to use a CPT9000 Motorola phone-PERIOD
unless you get one of these http://www.bcdonline.com/BMW/CPT9000.html
If you use a Blackberry then you have to use the new TCU, which is software upgradeable, the BTUM is not

The link you provided http://www.bcdonline.com/BMW/CPT9000.html Is my understanding of what the BTUM is.
So with the BTUM, any of the BlueTooth phones listed on the BTUM supported list should work. Based on the comments from the dealer, the BlueTooth supported lists for the BTUM and 2005 MY TCU are the same. Per your last post I think we are saying the saem thing. The BTUM is needed to support anything other than the Mot phone.
As I'm trying to make a decision on this I have been working with Gerry at Newport BMW (he is very hepful and is providing a 25% discount to E60 memebers).
I asked him for a quote on the 2005 My TCU P/N: 84106978660. As he was looking it up there were several part number changes on this unit and he said the documentation state that P/N: 84109122446 is the same part.
Any chance you happen to know the P/N on your TCU?
Thanks

The BTUM offers that same Bluetooth functionality as the cars with the newer TCU installed, you just have to have the wiring and cradle for the CPT-9000 phone, not the actual Motorola V60 phone that came with the CPT-9000 system.
The whole purpose of the BTUM was to allow the older cars (pre-BT TCU) to be able to get full BT functionality, etc. Using the BTUM should be a less expensive way to get what you're looking for.
OU812545 is correct in saying that the link that CanadaBat provided in his post is for the BTUM (Bluetooth Upgrade Module)...

you are correct as usual Rhudy, the btum will allow you to connect to most any bluetooth phone though some functionality may not work such a book sync and the verbal commands thru the steering wheel button. I purchased the cradle and btum from a bmw parts online and got it all for 500.00. The dealer tried for weeks to get it to work and when they could not and opened up a PUMA case the factory had them replace my TCU under warrenty and whola i got it intergrated and i have a September built 03 brought it in October of 03.
