Hey guys,
My E60 built 04/04 is pre-wired for bluetooth. I have the mic and the emergency phone in the overhead light part. Can I get the software update to turn on the bluetooth capability? Does it work with all bluetooth phones? I have a BB Curve.
Thanks!

Need a bit more info mate. Month of manufacture? I think if its been build post March 2004 a CIP upgrade will do the trick!. I have a 2004 with a BT professional phone fitted. The options are in iDrive.. however other phones aren't compatible!

Should be good to go with a software update (CIP upgrade). As I recall folks in the states were getting it for free but do a search for more details.

Yup you need a software update, it won't be free, probably $185 like mine was.
Thanks for the reply...I called BMW in Tampa, the SA quoted me over $300. He told me that they have to install a "module"...hmmm. I think it still is a good upgrade considering that it is a 6 speed manual and shifting while talking on a headset can be dangerous.

No module should be necessary, only software update and enablement of the BT features as kscarrol said in his post.

I confirm. My E60 is built 06/04, includes BMW assist and telecom pre-wiring, but I needed to take car to dealer (and pay $260) to activate Bluetooth functionality. The good news, my Blackberry 8830 World Edition paired up flawlessly, phonebook transferred to car automatically (took 2 minutes, about 200 entries), and everything works perfect, so far as I can tell.
My service guy is ticking me off. I fall within this 03/04 to 09/04 build date. i also have confirmed that my TCU is the part number used during this build period. The 1st time i asked for bluetooth he said i needed some hardware for 300 to 400 dollors. i asked a few months later when i went in for a broken seat control and he said i need a $700 hardware part. i asked what this part was called. he said its the "BTUM or something" corrent me if i'm wrong but isn't then BTUM the docking cradle? and doesn't the SIB state that the docking cradle can't be installed due to wiring problems? Should i go and ask another service guy or what?
