Also you need to check in which month your 2004 was manufactured as I believe only 2004's manufactured in the second half of the year can be bluetooth activated as this is when they changed the TCU.

you can get a motorola cradle for the 3xx motorola and mount it to the carrier under the coin try. there is a hole in the driver rear side in the arm rest. pull the rear panel with the 12v recievers out and you now have access to hole. i taped power off the 12v socket for the charger and hooked the antenna up to the cradle thru an adapter [power is only with the key on].. cost of the cradle is $40 from www.cellaularaccessory.com. the antenna adapter parts i got from a electronic supply shop. the bmw plug is unique, so i modified a standard cell antenna plug.

Is there some way a phone can just be plugged into the shark fin and power source without having to purchase a cradle? I was using a Motorola V600 with T-Mobile, when it crapped out on me. T-Mobile sent me a replacement- a V330. I don't own a cradle for either model, but I would love to somehow access the antenna. On longer trips I have the phone plugged into the AC adapter (I have taken to using the passenger well netting in my '05 545), but as far as I'm concerned, I would be just as happy having the phone in the center unit plugged in as opposed to buying the (expensive) cradle, especially as it seems I am changing phones more freqently than cars.....

I get about a 1-2 bar signal strength improvement using the hard wired antenna connection via the cradle. For soem this would not mean much but for me I have some marginal cell coverage areas and the improvement means the difference between no service and at least some service.

your right cobradav
but you do not need the BMW cradle [and other parts] to hook up to power or the antenna. see above. i now get the same number of bars the car recieves. most of the time you'll get the same number of bars on the phone as does the BMW assist. but if they are using different cell tower it maybe different.[u]
