Is there any way we can break the TCU and have the dealer replace it with the new one under warranty?

My car was build on 02/2004 and if I want BT I would have to replace the TCU. I am willing to break the damn thing and have the dealer replace it with the new TCU. I am not feeling like paying 2G's for the new one.

Desperate times are calling for desperate measures....

My understanding is that the only thing that we've found so far is to tell them that the voice callers can't hear you (like my, I had to buy Mr. Belk's cpt9000). I'm going to try that next service.

I'll let you know if I can figure anything else out.

Open TCU and cut one of the chip leg/pin to see how it goes
I fully agree without that 2K to get bluetooth is a reap off.

Just to add that I don't have a problem paying few hundred $$$ to get the BT working (up to $500). What I have a problem with is paying over $2,000 for something that other cars build in the same year as my car don't need to get the BT working. In my opinion the BT should be working on all 2004 E60s or none. Why are early buyers penalized?

BMW better hurry up with the solution of the BT problem that some of the 2004 cars are having or I will find a way to break the TCU (as will other members) and get that thing replaced under warranty.

So let's see:
BMW works out something to get the BT working on pre March 2004 cars and we maybe pay some money for the solution ORRRRRR we just break the TCU and get the damn thing replaced for FREE. BMW, it's up to you...

I'll still wait to see if BMW comes up with something... I can wait as long as I know I'll get the BT in the end.

Either way, you are bound to get it in the end.

Isn't the problem a conflict between BT and BMW assist for cars in North America. I still can't see why it's not allowed to just scrap the BMW assist phone. BT works elsewhere on pre-march 04 E60s. Is it just some kind of contractual obligation or something completely stupid like that.

Precisely ...

This is a sad tale of company greed, substandard technology, and suboptimal customer service.

The ultimate driving machine, huh ?!?!?!
