January 03 TCU
I've been looking at updating my TCU (October 2003 build 545), and found a TCU from January 2004, with a model number: 84116942592. I've scoured the forums and cannot figure out if this unit just needs a software update or is not at all compatible with bluetooth. It has the bluetooth symbol on the unit. Thoughts?

Hello Friends,
BMW hands-free systems are perhaps the most capable in-vehicle cellular systems available today. Whether you choose to use Bluetooth or add an available snap-in cradle, each system is deeply integrated into your vehicle to provide the fullest range of functions and stability possible. Only with the use of BMW compatible handsets with compatible software levels will you be guaranteed trouble-free performance and access to all supported functions.
Thanks and Regards,
Jon Franklin

@Jon Franklin - WTF??? Automated Robo-reply? Interesting...
@Westsidebalto - you will need a March 2004 or newer TCU for bluetooth. Though the TCU you have has the bluetooth module inside (hence the BT symbol), US-spec units prior to 03/2004 were hardware-disabled due to a potential safety problem/incompatibility between the BT module and telematics. Essentially, telematics could fail to operate with the BT receiver on.
