UPDATE:
Upgraded my iPhone to 2.2.1 and the bluetooth worked for a while then wouldn't connect. I had to restore my phone and then try again.
Eventually it paired back up again, very frustrating.
By the way, if you want to restore your iPhone, do your self a favour, right click on your phone in itunes(windows) and click transfer purchases, otherwise you'll have to download all your apps again.
I lost an app that is not available anymore and was brilliant (myrail train times) and now i'm gutted. hey ho.

Just got my car on Friday and managed to pair my 3G iPhone with no problems and everything transfered over fine.
It's been working a treat so far (admittidly only for 2 days!)
My iPhone is running the latest software but I have no idea about the car.

My phone has worked great from the start. Paired in the dealer lot.
But my address book on the phone has changed. The iDrive seems to keep the original version of the address book. Can you force a synch without deleting the phone for the iDrive list?

Have you tried deleting the phone and then repairing it?
How long does it take to pair your phone when you start the car? It's taking mine about 90 seconds to link. I thought it would be a lot quicker since a Bluetooth earpiece only takes about 10 seconds to pair.
