Same here...since the first day I paired my phone, that icon has been up, missed call or not.

Is anyone getting SMS working over Bluetooth with Verizon as a carrier, if so which CIP version is needed?

Sorry for missing that if it has already been posted somewhere. I am searching, but all I find is that SMS works ONLY with the CPT9000. Nothing in this Bluetooth & Cell Phone Forum.
You're only getting that SMS works only with the CPT9000 because that's the only way it'll work. No BT SMS at the present time...

As far as the little phone icon, for it to appear, I think this is the scenario (but I might be mistaken...)

The phone has to get a missed call while paired to the car. From there, the icon will show up. After that, even if the missed call status is cleared from the phone, I think you have to delete the message from the car as well. (Again, I'm doing all this from memory and this hasn't happened to me in a long while so until someone -- maybe me -- can test and verify this, it's quite possible that my information is not as accurate as I'd like it to be...)

What Rudy described is exactly how my Verizon Razr works. The phone icon will stay on everytime I get in the car until I go into the Idrive menu and clear the missed call.

I may be an old woman, but I guess my memory is still sharp as, say a 60 year-old!

Agreed, Rudy is right, however he was not describing the Verizon RAZR, which shows the missed call indicator on the phone only once.

The E60 shows the icon forever, until you go into the Idrive menu and clear the missed call.

Further to all of this you will have a ,,missed`` call if a 2nd call comes in (call waiting). Even if you answer it, the icon will appear.

Exactly what I thought I was saying. I might not have been as clear as I could be

This is a confirm, thank Rudy, I tested with my Verizon 6700 and I missed a call, icon showed up, then went into Missed Call and then the icon went away.

Time for me to make a donation!
