No, I think that's because it's been difficult enough for BMW/carriers/handset manufacturers to get their collective act together to support the basic functions of communication via bluetooth and SMS is just not that important to them (especially considering so many bluetooth phones are not fully compatible from a voice perspective).

As of now (v15.3 with v16 coming in the next few weeks) there is no support for SMS in a bluetooth phone.? It's possible it could happen with a software upgrade down the road but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Lastly, the only way to find out what software you're running is to have your dealer check for you.

By the way, I noticed that I don't have the "SMS" option on my iDrive (at least I didn't see it).? I've seen screenshots where the "SMS" option is between the "Phone" and "BMW Assist".? Not the case with mine (no "SMS" in between the two).

[quote name='jenny' date='Mar 9 2005, 05:55 PM']Here an update......

The phonebook finally transferred over (it took nearly an hour to do so) and I was able to call using the phonebook.? Caller ID also works for callers that are already on my contact list.

Awesome ... so this one works. try ading another contact to your phone book, and see how long it will take now to add that one to the iDrive contact

Ok, I added a new contact to my phonebook. When I get in the car and saw that the BT connection between the car and phone is good, I immediately looked for the new contact in iDrive and lo and behold, it is added. Within minutes, I imagine.

Hello Jenny,

Could you please try this test?? Have a friend or buddy send you 10+ short messages to your phone while not in the car. Afterwards when you are in the car see if the BT connection cycles on and off or not...

This has been the plague of some SE phones.. Would be nice to see if they have sorted it out.. If you get the problem, just switch off the car, delete the messages from the phone.. then restart car.. Everything should be good and dandy then..

Regards

./sherif

You mean text messages, not voice messages, right? I'll try it and report here accordingly.

Will it make a difference if my iDrive is not able to handle SMS?

Hi Jenny,

Yes text messages.. Even if the idrive doesn't display the text messages the tcu seems to try to read them and hence goes into this cycle when it overflows.. Please try and let us know.

TIA

./sherif
