First thread! Bluetooth on my 04 525i?
#1
Alright, I guess I just lost my posting virginity as this is my first post! I just recently purchased a 2004 525i (my first bmw) and am absolutely in love. Less then 3 days I've owned her and I'm already looking into adding some mods.
Just ordered some 19" rims, some 16" snow tires for stock rims, the angelibright (amber), 20% tint, and am looking to get a bluetooth kit or possibly an ipod adapter setup so I can take advantage of my iphone.
My car was built in 05/04 ... reading the bimmernav site it says that I am not equipped w/ bluetooth and need the full $650 kit they have, is there anyway around this? Also how about an ipod adapter can I just wire one in or do I need to have the idrive software updated, and is there a way to do that myself?
Sorry if these are totally noob questions, first time bmw enthusiast here and very excited

Welcome to the forums. Don't believe whatever you read on Bimmernav -- you should be able to get BT working with a software update (that the dealer has to perform.)

Do you have the bluetooth option on your i-drive? First of all congrats on the car, I just bought the exact same car and I have the exact same build month, 5/04. I'm taking my car in tomorrow to get the software upgrade for the bluetooth. I was specifically told the month I have would be compatible with the software upgrade for the bluetooth. I should have my car back on Friday to report in how it went. One of the best techs the dealer had, did some investigating and pulled all the documents I needed in order to bring in for the person who is gonna perform it tomorrow. I am under warranty and was told I would have to pay for 1-2 hours of labor and BMW would cover the rest under warranty. Something like $500!

If your car is a North American build and is 05/04 production, you do have the required hardware. As others have said, you will require a software update to activate BT. The reason it does not appear in your idrive menu is not because you do not have the hardware, but simply because the software is not active.
