Do you know... Will ANY March build date work or is there a specific day cutoff?? Of course I am a March build.

Your dealer will call in your VIN Number to BMW to check the suitability of your car before they do any work.

Two of my employees, when asked, said that the audio quality was not good.[/b]? On my way home, I called my home digital answering machine from my car.? I would agree that it sounds mediocre when I hear it myself.? I am looking into a cradle solution which would would work with my Motorola V600 and use the shark fin antenna.? BMW Assist goes through the shark fin antenna and not the cell phone.? It sounds good.? I am leaning toward looking for a solution that has better audio quality.? Either I will have the phone cradle, which I have a part number for, installed with wiring to the the shark fin antenna or I will go the CPT 9000 route.? I am a Partner in an architectural firm and I am constantly on the phone when I drive so I need a good solution that has good quality audio.? If you need good audio quality, I would not recommend Bluetooth.? It is neat technology, but the audio qaulity is a compromise.? I wish that I had better news after all of this, but that is the way that it is.? That is my opinion.? I am curious what others think.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the cradle will NOT help improve the audio quality.. the cradle is only for charging, and to store the phone.. again, bluetooth is a "wireless" solution. the shark fin will only help to achieve better reception.. however, with 3/4 bars, you are getting strong signal..

it is the decoder in the bluetooth software that needs work.. wait for an upgrade of that.. you will see a substantial difference.. bluetooth takes the voice, scrambles it, sends it through the air, unscrambles and reproduces the sounds.. if software is off, so is quality...

don't waste the money on the cradle unless you need charging capabilities!

Wassy:

What do you recommend to get better audio quality now? Should I go with the CPT9000 for the time being? If I did that, I would just leave the CPT9000 in the car and use the V600 for normal use. What do you recommend? Thanks.

well, having both requires you to keep changing the SIM card.. that will piss you off mighty quick.

i would site tight for a little while.. let's see if 13.4, 13.5, or even 14 has better quality.. now that they know it works, give it time to work its way through the system.. as you know BMWNA keeps upgrading software to "fix" things, lets hope they know about the lack of quality with BT..

even their retrofit ULF modules for the older E39, X5, etc.. isn't all that great.. BT is still a new technology.

The new motorola RAZR just came out and it is really sweet. It also has BT and is global GSM (all region frequencies). But needs a GSM provider like T-Mobile or Cingular.

I wonder if different phones would help in any way.

The other thing I was wondering is if anyone (pharding or others) have tried making calls without the car's BT connection, but with a BT earpiece connected to the same phone to know it that quality is much better for the audio.

Are you saying that you are not satisfied with the audio quality of your Bluetooth setup now? That the audio quality of CPT9000 was much better?

Boy...this topic has been a real roller coaster ride. Ups, downs and in betweens! I've not seen this much activity on a single topic since I've been a member. Just goes to show the wide range of opinions out there regarding new technology and its practical applications.

I'm sorry to hear about the disappointing audio quality. As for myself, I'll stick with the CPT9000 until BMW and the cell phone makers can work the bugs out.

Does anyone know if the Acura has the same BT audio quality issues?

I wonder if the problem is your TCU. Here is a repost of my earlier post:

My dealer provided me with a copy of this BMW Service Bulletin. Instead of scanning, I'll just type the text:

SERVICE MEASURE
Phone, Navigation Systems B84 226 04 August 30, 2004

Subject:
CPT9000 (V60s) Telephone Landside Echo in Hands-free

Complaint:
An echo niose can be heard from the landside party while in a hands-free call.

Cause:
DSP sensitivity of TCE (Telematics Control Unit)

Measure:
Currently this complaint is under investigation. This measure will be updated as soon as a resolution is available. In the interim inform the customer of the following recommendations in order to reduce the echo.
- While in a hands-free call make sure all windows and sunroof are completely closed.
- Turn the hands-free volume heard in the vehicle down.
- Direct the heating and air conditioning center vents down away from the microphone.

Hope this helps people out - sounds like a fix is on the way.
