My Ride: 2004 525i, Metalic Gray, Premium Package
I was reading a 2005 manual that talks about how you operate your BMW portable phone via the Control Center or voice control and how you use BMW Assist or TeleService. My car is 2004 525i, but I do see a few buttons that resemble voice control commands for phones.
Anybody knows 525i for 2004 has the voice control capability for making phone calls? And do I need a special "BMW portable phone", or any cell phone will work with the system?

Since your car is a 2004, it's important to know the month the car was produced. You can look on the sticker on the driver's door jamb (or, to get an exact date, you can call BMW NA and ask them.)
If the car was built in March 2004 or later, you may be able to use a Bluetooth phone with a software upgrade only.
If it's before that date, there are other possibilities...

hey Rudy, do u know how much is the software update?
I will say that the software update often crashes and has to be started over again. If you're paying someone by the hour for this, it could get quite expensive. Hopefully, you'll get some other replies here to help you get a better idea of what others have paid...

Hi, I'm a newbie and only had my 07/2005 for a couple of weeks but I will share what I have found out.
First, I have a ProfNav and CD single and CDC. I also have a Motorola V3i working fine in its cradle.
I have the Voice button but it is not enabled/activated. My local dealer has quoted in the region of ?600 to do so.
Based on this I believe I have version 18 of Progman. MP3 does not work for me on either CD, so I guess I am not on version 20. Next week I an having the BMW iPOD connection fitted replacing the CDC. It has to have the (overnight) Progman update to activate this. Now, I have asked that I have the latest version and was told that they only use the latest version so any upgrade will take you to that.
I will confirm following the upgrade to see what is what. I was told the upgrade done on it's own would be about ?212.
Cheers
Alan
