Here is my problem, I have a 04 545i with a production date of 11/03, the dealer told me that because of the production year, my car does not come with bluetooth. I read on here that its best to remove my TCU and check it for my self. So I did, and this is what i found. its has the BT symbol on it, So does this mean I have BT and I just need to activate it ?

Bluetooth should be listed on your I drive main menu under "Communication Settings." If it is listed that is where you go to set up your phone.
Good luck.

No, based on the part number of the TCU, not the BT symbol, no Bluetooth. Looking at RealOEM.com, they list part # 84116942592 for the TCU up until 03/04, which corresponds with the pre-BT TCU. Your photo shows that part number as well, so I'd say no BT unforutnately.

Do a search here as I recall other early car using a BTUM (Bluetooth Upgrade module) as a fix for early cars with the wrong TCU. For example, this thread shows an early E60 getting the BTUM to work on his car...

Correct -- you can go the BTUM route, spring for a new TCU, or use an aftermarket device. I think some people here have used a Parrot -- did you try a search?

I dont know about the part numbers of the TCU but this is what happened to me. I own a 2004 530i and the build date is April (04/04). I had seen a bulletin which said cars with build date between 03/04 - 08/04 have the hardware capability to support bluetooth. It just requires a software upgrade. Also, these cars are require a programming update to play MP3 from their in dash CD player. Based on this info, yesterday I went to the dealer ( Rockville, MD) and got both these updates. To my surprise both came free under warranty. Actually, only the MP3 update was free but since they were doing a software update they updated the Bluetooth option also for free.
Have attached the MP3 Service Bulletin you can refer. Also, below is the extract from the Bluetooth Service Bulletin SI B84 13 04.

For E60/63/64 vehicles produced from 3/04 to 8/04, Bluetooth? functionality can be added to most of
these vehicles by updating the vehicle software using CIP 13.2 or higher. After this is performed "Retrofit"
of "Tel Bluetooth" needs to be performed. Follow the procedure as described in this Service Information
for "Activating Bluetooth" and "Pairing the Handset". Vehicles prior to 3/04 would need to have the TCU
replaced with the 2005 MY TCU at the customer's expense and the vehicle updated to CIP 13.2 or higher.
Phone docking cradles may not be added to these vehicles because of wiring incompatibility. Note: This
software update and retrofit is not covered under warranty and is at the customer's expense.

I was able to play MP3 from my in Dash CD player and also pair my iPhone.
Hope this helps.

Anyone knows if this applies to European LCI E60s also?

What would apply? An LCI (2008) E60 in Europe should have BT, no? Unless there is a different package that it is part of. At least here in the U.S. it is standard and has been since 2005 model year.

I mean, can bluetooth be activated in an European LCI E60 by just upgrading/adding bluetooth option by computer in service? I think there are BT capabilities built-in (TCU). And no, I don't have BT option from factory (I wouldn't be asking if I had), and it's not standard here in Europe.
