My Ride: E60
I've been having this weird "popping"/crackling sound coming from all audio sources with my E60 since I got it 9 months ago. I hear it on CDs, FM, AM, etc.
So this is not related to the poor AM reception thing. Anyway, at louder volumes, I hear popping sounds coming from the speakers and the sound seems to bounce back and forth from some of the speakers almost like they're shorting out. This has been fairly intermittent too. Anyway, I have been to the dealer several times and they have not been able to fix it. They have tried like 4 times.
Anyway, I ran across a post on the 7 Series board by total accident and a guy was having the same problem on his 2004 7 Series. After a couple trips to the dealer, this is what was done to solve it.
So my question is... Is it posible that this is my problem too BUT I do not have a phone? Is it possible I also have a bad phone module that may be in use for the BMW Assist thing?

I? waited a few days before I was sure the problem was fixed and I'm now convinced they've finally replace the correct thing this time. It was a control unit (1-84-11-6-946-428 Control Unit

Yes, all US e60's have a Telematics Control Unit with a cell phone chip in it. This is the 'phone' that BMW Assist uses. Have you been able to connect with them to start your free year of service?

Yes, I have been able to connect with them and my year's worth of service will be up in about 3 months.
Thanks for the info.
