The center console cradle only charges the phone, it does not support ipod functionality or connectivity to iDrive. If you want iDrive control, you need the ipod adapter. While the adapter itself goes in the glove box, the cable can be run anywhere you want. You can also use it in conjunction with a "Spec Dock" http://specdock.com/, but they are expensive and relatively difficult to install. Ironically, I think the cheapest solution is to get a dedicated IPOD for the car, and just use your iPhone as a phone. I just keep the phone in my pocket and my old 30 Gig IPOD in the glove box.

Apple made a 4gb in the 1st generation iphone also 8gb and 16gb
3g iphines 8gb and 16gb only at the moment...32gb on the way

Considering that I have a 4 gb 2.5g/edge iphone, I'm willing to say you are incorrect....
There are 32gb I pod touches , and from the amount of NAND Apple has bought from Samsung in the last 2 months something is coming out very soon.

When the OP says he got a new iPhone I can only assume he just got a new iPhone, which is only offered in 8 and 16 gb versions. He didn't indicate he had acquired an older iPhone 2/2.5G or was waiting for something that might be coming out... Again, my apologies if my quick response seemed like I was trying to be an ass.
