Dealer says they cannot update software to add bluetooth functionality
#1
Hey Gang
I have an 04 530i (BUILD DATE OF 5/04). Based on an SIB 841304 which says that build dates between 3/03-8/04 can have bluetooth functionality added (section number 4). This can be done by software update using CIP 13.2. After this is perfomred "Retrfit" of " Tel Bluettoth" needs to be performed....Vehicles prior to 3/04 would have to have the TCU replaced (this is well over $1000.00 which is not an option for me). I was told that this is a 2 hr job and was willing to pay about $225 for it.
SO, my service advisor from Manhattan BMW told me that it could not be done aven after reading this SIB.
Does anyone think it can be done, OR should I just give up and use my speaker phone functionality on my RAZR.
much thanks

Had my '04 - E60 Build date 07/04 bluetooth activated with no problem, given the time that it took them to do it , less than 1 hour, I would tend to agree with ADEMITT that only the telecommunication software had to be updated. Dealer didn't even charge me for the software upgrade.
Given how great having bluetooth is, I would not give up so fast. I have found that there is usually one person in the dealership that really knows about bluetooth, seek out the resident expert and let him/her tell you if it is possible or not, or just send an email to BMWNA with your question, I am sure that they will get back to you.

Agree can be done and several on the board have done so. Call different dealers, even if too far away. Get one that agrees and have their tech call your dealer tech. I did this on a different issue as my dealer just could not believe me and refused to carry the matter further. I found one that did know and had them talk tech to tech and then my dealer fixed me up.
