Nice microsite - glad that they have created it and hopefully will continue to update it with new compatible phones, etc. ... BUT it still doesn't address the incompatibilities that exist between BMW's implementation of Bluetooth and other manufacturers' phones. For Bluetooth to be a success, it needs to be as easy as purchasing a BT headset for a BT-capable phone. Easy: find one that you like and connect them ... and they work. This is not the case with the minimal set of "recommended" phones that BMW has working on their in-car systems.

Bottom line: BMW is leading in deployment of Bluetooth in-car systems. Great. But they are not yet compatible with most manufacturers' BT phones. Result: Very limited usefulness.

Huh. Not compatible with "most manufacturers' BT"?
BMW is one of a select group of cars that works with the v710 - the 2nd largest carriers only option. It worked with the v500 series which is likely to be Cingular/ATT best selling bluetooth phone. Those 2 phones probably represent the majority of bluetooth phones sold in the US as those 2 carriers represent up to 70% of the US market.

Bluetooth as a protocol is a little bit of the problem. Handsets don't store phone numbers and make calls so have a fairly simple protocol. OPP and OBEX are not issues with handsets.

My opinion is that now (since Verizon and BMW worked it out - if you can say that) that the majority if not all of the US market has an option. Given all the crippling of bluetooth by the phone carriers - this is impressive. Blame should not go to BMW - the v710 was clearly Verison's fault. The treo 650 in purely native form is arguably TREOs or Sprints fault.
