I had cip 16.2 installed last week. Everything works great include the phone. I thought I'd try BMW Assist and I have a few questions ..

1. when bluetooth has an active pairing with a phone, if a serious collision occur, would BMW Assist overide BT and call for help?

2. I called BMW Assist using iDrive to test connection with phone off. Made the connection and spoke to an BMW operator, she said she has my info and called by name but said my service is not activated. And that has to be done by the dealer. The car was delivered Sep 04 and I had called BMW Assist once or twice to test it out but they had never said my service was not activated.

So my question is, would the 16.2 upgrade do anything to my BMW Assist profile? or is the free BMW Assist only good for 6 months or 1 year??

BMW Assist is independent of any BT connection you have. It uses it's own internal phone so it doesn't matter if you have a phone paired, powered up, etc.

The service is free for the first 12 months. I can't think of a reason why a software upgrade would change activation status. You might want to try calling them again to ask if you're activated or not...

Lost it altogether or lost the activation status?

There are reports of 16.2 doing something bad to the TCU which warrants a replacement. I've never heard of the upgrade doing what yogibear458 is talking about...

You sure about that? There's a dedicated cell phone built in for BMW Assist? I thought I read that cell phone service was a requirement for BMW Assist.

Yes and yes.

There is a requirement for cell phone service as it pertains to a signal. BMW Assist won't guarantee that it will work in areas where no cellular service exists -- for the built in BMW phone...
