Well, I went into Cingular to purchase a RAZR, had the credit card out, etc., when the sales 'droid hits me with a $300 deposit fee. WTF?????? This was going on my business account, I have never heard of this (in 5 yrs with Verizon, and 3 yrs with MCI before that....)! My business land lines cost me over $500/mo without a deposit, and they want a deposit for a lousy $49/mo plan?

Nice cure for techno-lust, that was.....

try go to one of their authorized dealers instead. most of the time they have better deals and are willing to give out freebies .

Man, that stinks! Whatever credit-check system they use must have come up with that. You should get a copy of your credit report, review it, and get any errors corrected. I use Sprint's and Verizon's similar system on a daily basis. One thing that can easily cause this is if the sales droid mis-typed your social security number or drivers license number. You might want to go back and have it done again, making sure all the info they type in is correct, before they hit the enter button. Good luck.

Well, that's the funny thing- the sales droid did not have time to check my credit report! He just flat-out told me "$300 deposit for business service" and that it wasn't negotiable. I walked, called Cingular the next day, got the same phone/service, a big apology, no deposit and at a slightly better price (and they did an instant credit check- btw mine gets checked regularly and it is pristine), and I'll have the phone in two days.

Cingular is offering a $100 rebate, bring the price of the RAZR down to the V710, so that pretty much sold it for me. Next trick will be getting it all to work.....
