Does the 530I purchased back on August 2004 has the bluetooth option? If not, is it possible to add the feature on the car maybe buy purchasing some adapters?

It's the build date that is important not the purchase date and if you bought off a lot, this could be significantly different. If the sticker inside the door says April 04 or later, the above should work - if Feb. 04 or earlier, it will not work - if Mar. 04, maybe.

This is NOT true. A s/w update only will NOT do the trick, for '04 model cars. The auto must also be 'coded' for Bluetooth in addition to the s/w update.

well, sj3, you are right. but i assume the88saint will tell the technicians about activating the bluetooth along with other s/w related problems and they'll do the rest .

I was thinking that someone reading here would think they just need to ask their dealer for a s/w update, maybe not saying anything, maybe to try and save money. There would be no BT joy.

SJ3 - what do you mean by the "auto must also be coded"... do you know the specifics of what needs to be done....i.e., is it activation via idrive etc...?

No, this 'coding' step is done by the dealer, not us, after the s/w update is installed. I'm not sure exactly what they type in, but there is a seperate step performed by the dealer. If an auto already has up-to-date s/w, then they can just perform this coding step. This is just stuff I've read here from posters with proven reliability, sometimes tough with this internet thing!
