The TCU 84 11 6 942 592 was used up to 3/2004 superceeded by 84 11 6 948 921 which was used up to 9/04. Both of these TCUs have been retired and the current ones are 84 10 6 978 659 and 84 10 9 126 660. Their prices should be around $1500 from the dealer.

Most likely your current TCU does not have Bluetooth as the production date is Jan 04. You can always get a TCU from a wrecked car and your friendly dealer can recode it to your car.
Good luck

Where is the TCU located so I can go salvage yard hunting?

And, to be totally anal, that's the left side for those of you in places where you drive on the wrong side of the road...

And I am sure Rudy does not refer to those in places in the US driving on the wrong side of the road.

Hi all,

With the discussion above about getting a TCU unit, would you also happen to need a bluetooth antenna? Do you have to replace the BMW Assist module too?

I'm pretty to confused as to go about the correct way of doing this.

This site www.bimmernav.com has a bluetooth retrofit, (installation instructions) which just adds the Bluetooth antenna and replaces the BMW assist module (not sure what module is this, maybe ULF), but doesnt mention changing the TCU. It does however say to go to your dealer and have it recoded.

So What is the correct procedure?

My car is a 2004 530i, E60 (09/2003 build), Last 7#'s of Vin:B061158. I think i have bmw assist and the mic above my console. I looked in the overhead compartment by the dome lights and Pass side airbag light and I see the plug for the mic too.

I'm either going to order from this site, or I might be able to get a TCU unit from a private seller, waiting to get the part number to have anyone verify it should work.

Thanks in advance to all that helps.

I just bought a 2004 530i (11/03 build) that has BMW Assist, but no phone or BT. I called Bimmernav to clarify how their BT solution would apply to my car. The BT unit they sell is a ULF unit that provides BT functionality only, as opposed to a new TCU unit that provides BMW Assist connectivity along with the BT functionality. Installation of their unit bypases the original TCU altogether and eliminates BMW Assist from the system. The large plug that is connected to the original TCU plugs into the Bimmernav box, along with the antenna lead. So, if you don't want/need BMW Assist this box will provide the same BT functionality as a new TCU. I was told that the Bimmernav solution consists of BMW OEM parts and will not affect your Mfr. Warranty, and must be coded by the dealer.

Is the BTUM something that you've looked at as an option?

I just bought a TCU 84.10.9.126.660. Will it allow Bluetooth to work in my car? Will I need anything else? 01-04 production 545i.

My car is 11/03 build and that part number worked. If you currently have BWW Assist capability it should work.
