My car is in the shop for Bluetooth set-up and software upgrade to v13.3 or higher and connection of that fiber optic cable in order to get Bluetooth up and running tomorrow. I never got BMW Assist set up since I had heard that the 2 items might conflict. But now I'd like to have both if they are compatible.

Does anyone who has had the BT install also have Assist working as well? My car was built in May 04 so it is within the time period of ability to retrofit the BT capabilities. If they both can work together, I'll make sure my dealer knows that info.

Any experience on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

gdavis,

I use the same dealer as pharding- MotorWerks, and he was the first to have BT. While I have not yet had my BT activated, MotorWerks confirmed to me in person they got BT working with BMW assist.

Now I need to find the time to have my BT activated.

Good Luck.

I can confirm that ASSIST and BT coexist just fine. I called the conceirge and they received the caller ID of my phone. I also have activated the panic button and the ASSIST desk has verified my location.

FWIW, there is no cable connection necessary in conjunction with the BT retrofit. It is not mentioned anywhere in the SIB describing the steps that the tech has to take to activate the BT functionality.

I have a March '04 production vehicle and BT and ASSIST coexist peacefully. Even though you never activated ASSIST, there was still a resource conflict between the ASSIST hardware and the BT hardware that precluded BT from working. This latest SW revision gets past that conflict.

hey guys, thanks for the insight into these 2 being compatible. My car is in for Bluetooth for the last 2 days, and the dealer told me that the idrive screen has 'died' and they need to figure out what to do now.

He didn't clarify if it is hardware or software related, but it sounds like they are sort of waiting it out to see if they can do a 'work-around' or if they have to replace parts to get back to square one.

I don't know if it is a crashed computer or the display itself...

At least I know that if they get BT working, then Assist could maybe get working as well (as long as they are up to work on it!)

Sorry to hear about your wait for Bluetooth

My car was in the shop recently and was told that the BT retrofit was not available. Grrr.
So, time to setup another appointment soon.....

It was nice to get the car back anyway. I sometimes forget what a nice machine it is, despite all the minor quirks
