My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets. First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Thumbs down

Hi guys,
I have a problem (that I helped create!) My dealer has not encountered this BT adapter installation until now. Have any of you successfully installed the BT Adapter and Cradle/Box, etc. from scratch (no previous CPT9000)?

What they are concerned about is having the TCU/Car recognize the cradle and adapt, and they feel they will have to do a full reprogram, since no phone (CPT 9000) has ever been installed.

I thought the Telephone Support (Part number 51 16 7 060 175....$20.25) is all the "programming" that was needed (other than pairing my E815 phone with the system.)

If you have done this FULL install, please help me clarify this for my dealer; they are also corresponding via PUMA, but OUR BOARD INFO seems to be a lot more meaningful and helpful.

Many thanks,
Ray Hull

If your car has no phone at all you need the CPT9000 eject box (cradle as some call it), the support frame, and the BTUM module.

Once those parts have been installed, the dealer only needs to program the car to recognize the CPT9000 phone. I think the car has to be programmed without the BTUM installed first. They should confirm that the phone is working with an actual CPT9000 phone that they test with. After that's working, the BTUM module plugs into the cradle and you can pair your phone with the pass code given on the reverse side of the module and you're good to go! There's no programming for the BTUM module, just the CPT9000 phone. It'll take a little bit to first download your address book but after that everything runs instantly for the most part.

Now one thing, the car may need a partial or full re-programming of the other modules depending on when you had your last update. If that's the case though it should be covered under warranty -- you should only have to pay for the CPT9000 programming. It's a 2 hour labor charge to install the cradle & program it or 1 hour for just programming (if you DIY the eject box). I believe those are the standard charges.

Lomag is correct. It states that it was an evolution in the new 5 series design that all models were pre-wired at start of production essentially just needing the cradle and programming to add any phone. See 04 Product Guide clip attached...

I spent $375 to install the eject box+reprogramming in July 2004:

Following Lomag's labor estimates, if your eject box is a DIY, you should be charged only
for the reprogramming ($50 - $100?)
