Automatically sending codes after connection

I store post-connection codes with my address book in the iPhone. These are used to activate the voice mail after the connection with the answering machine has been achieved.
The BT in the BMW, which is perfect in any other way, ignores these codes.
Is there a work-around this shortcoming?

I believe it will ignore the codes if you dial from the car controls, but all should work 100% if you initiate the call from the iPhone.
