hi, just figured I would prvide the following info.

Have a new to me CPO 2004 (3/04 build date) which was just updated at the dealer upon delivery this week.

The blue tooth works great and paired perfectly with my Verizon Treo 700p (I was very happy and surprised following all the posts I had read).

The phone book sync'd up, all my info shows on screen, etc. Had aproblem this morning with the Idrive (crashed??). But it came back up after 15min. and all I had to do was re-pair my phone. All is good again.

Did you have to replace the TCU on a 3/04 build e60 530 or was it just a software update?

3/04 build cars only need software to allow BT functionality...

That is correct, it was software only, I am certain the dealer did not change the TCU (at no cost for me).

Maybe I should clarify then... does this apply to NAV and non-NAV ??

I'm 02/04 and the dealer says I need a new TCU. I'm non-NAV.

OP: Do you have NAV?

Sorry, I have NAV, also from everything I have read on this forum (it is GREAT), cars with a 3/04 build or newer have the feature, 02/04 and older do not. Hope this helps.

The 3/2004 cutoff date has nothing to do with nav or non-nav cars. Any E60 produced before 3/2004 needs a TCU upgrade. Cars produced between 3/2004 and 9/2004 need software only and cars produced after 9/2004 are delivered with BT functionality present in the iDrive system.

How do you pair a blue tooth phone with an 05 545i (in my case, a BB 8700g)? - do you first need to enable something? - pay for a phone service through bmw? - thanks! ed

Check in your communication settings (idrive "i" menu) to see if BT is an option. If it is, enter the Bluetooth menu and follow the instructions on screen to pair the phone to the car.

If BT is not available, you will need to have BT enabled by the dealer as part of a SW update.
