My Ride: 2007 550i Alpine White on Grey Dakota Leather, Sport, Premium, Navi., 5% & 20% Tint, K&N Air Filter, Black Kidneys, Hyper-White Halos, HID Look Fogs, LED Licence Plate Lights & Interior Lights, 19x8.5 & 19x9.5 Chrome MMR GT1's, Hancook Ventus 245/35/19 & 275/30/19's. Super Clean.

that's my E60....we just heated it with a heat gun and pried it with a tool. Just be careful not to rush like i did other wise you may dent the top of the roof slightly. The rubber adhesive that holds it is very strong so you have to take your time.

I am sure with more heat and if you used a fishing line, the shark fin can come off without any problems.
I did an E60's roof yesterday, and the owner opted for me to work around the shark fin, so that's what I did. Both ways are possible. Removing the shark fin just makes it a lot easier to lay down the vinyl.
