I am the person who was going to sell my 545 Remus to NY550i, and its been a major headache for me as well.

We were going on a lot of info from RemusExhaustShop, but that info, or lack thereof, has been frustrating. We basically gave up and decided not to do our transaction anymore.

Untrue. The exhaust is not a bolt-on for 545 either because there is no flange. The stock inlet pipe on all E60's must be cut, and the exhaust clamped on or welded on - cannot be bolt on. The clamp and inlet pipe from the 545 Remus will not fit the 550 stock inlet pipe.

In order to fit this exhaust to the 550i, you need the adapters that are attached.
This is included in our instructions and in the box, the reason why NY550i had problems must have been because he bought it used and the original customer did not foward him the adapters.
I wish this information was available sooner. My 545 Remus did not come with any adapters, probably because I bought it before the 550 came out, as Rody suggested above. It is unfortunate that none of us knew adapters existed. For your future customers, it would be useful if you also post those instructions in this thread, so they know what's exactly involved. So I assume after installing the adapters that one can then fit the 545 Remus clamp onto a 550 inlet pipe? Or do you still have to weld it?

I'm not sure if the misrepresentation is coming from RemusExhaustShop or Remus Austria. But Matt, the here's some friendly advice for you - in sales, know your product. I think it would benefit your business if you had some hands-on experience with the exhausts, especially installation.

Usually we have all those informations on hand from Remus Austria, however they did not put a notice about a CT(connecting tube), which they usually do.

Our description will be changed.
Thanks for your patience.

We will make a new thread to advertise the real information about this product. We'll let this open though.

Looking at the pictures of the connecting pipes it looks like they are designed to be clamped on (notice the slits), however, I think there may be a need for more than one clamp. I'm a bit confused as to the need for two pipes instead of just one Matt, in the new thread that you're going to start it would be good to scan and post the installation instructions for both the 545 and the 550 that explain how the clamps/connector pipes are to be used.

thanks for posting after i returned the muffler to jet190rs...

Is it possible to purchase the adapter without purchasing the muffler?

The clamps still would not work so you will have to weld or remus has to provide new clamps for the adapters.

I still think the piping on the 545i and 550i are the same in size and no matter what you need to weld it... reason for me saying this is because i took a look at a 530i and the piping is identical to my 550i.

Piping on 530i is around 2.75, piping on V8 is 2.91
We made a new thread with loads of info, for the adapter, usually unless it was lost in shipping, Remus AT won't sell them seperately.

any good shop should be able to easly make an adapter with a flared tip, then it can be properly welded on. I would go that route if you have a turstworthy muffler shop. This is clearly an afterthough 550i exhaust though

A good muffler shop *should* either have expansion/reduction pipes in stock, or if they don't it's one of the easiest things for them to make with an expansion machine (which all muffler shops should have). As a matter of fact I wouldn't trust a muffler shop that can't do that for you. It should only take a couple of minutes for them to fabricate an expansion pipe. If it were me I would just go have a muffler shop do it instead of trying to get the connecting pipes/clamps from Remus. The muffler shop can use a generic expansion pipe (or fabricate one), then they can either weld it on or use a clamp (which they should have in stock too).
