my first guess - check the battery or alternator. If it dies it would pop up bunch of error messages and sure it will not start after all

=====================

Thanks, but the truth came out today when the BMW dealer checked out my brothers 745i, and BMW tech found a vital part of the computer that he said is located under the rear seat of the 2002 745i got wet somehow and had shorted out most of the entire 745i idrive computer system, and the BMW tech said we first need to find out where the leak is at, and stop it, meanwhile we will have the BMW Part here in 24hrs and will take about 30mins to replace and you will be on your way back to Atlanta...

...Come to find out, my sweet sister in law, (LOL), my brothers wife finally said oh yea I did spill quite a bit of water from the melted ice from the ice box, and it was in the back seat yesterday when she was getting a coke, and she asked now could that had done the problem to our BMW not going dead and not starting until today? (I thought to myself, Dahhhhh, ((LOL)) but that is what done it to my brothers 745i the BMW Tech said).

Wives can be funny, but expensive!! Just kidding but our BMWs are so hi Tech, in fact we found that BMW sells an electric cigarette plug in Cooler/carrier for 185.00, that BMW recomends and told my brother get rid of the ice ehest in your BMW, that could leak water like yours did, and did damage to your BMW onboard computer, (i.e. for the entire system that's is located under the read seat of the 2002 745i).

Thanks again for your help, but you did not have the whole story, otherwise based on the info. you got from me, it could very well had been the battery or alternator as you had said...

Eddie

---------

$300.00...My brother got back to Atlanta at 2am, and called me from work this morning. I asked him was his elec. Problem fixed and how much did the BMW dealer in Tulsa charged him? He said oh $300.00 for everything the parts & labor to repair his 2002 745i while complaining of the price for a small computer part that controls everything on his car, that his wife shorted out with water from their ice chest spilling out in the backseat. (Correct me if I am wrong, but that emergency out of town price was a near steal whenever BMW idrive parts and service is done on our BMW idrive models...

$300, he got very lucky as I would have expected $1000 min and more like double that when I heard about the water ruining the computer. Diagnostic check alone could have been most of that $300. Glad it all worked out. He might want to silicon that thing like crazy to save himself the trouble in the future

UPDATE: It was not his entire 745i computer, but some kind of Resistor that is located under his rear seat that connected to the idrive coomputer that got wet with melted ice water from his ice cooler, and made which made his idrive start throwing up failure messages, and his car stopped running. Your right, I have seen one to two hour BMW dealer Diagnostic Checks is $130.00 to $260.00 most of the time, at my Atlanta BMW dealer, in my opinion he came out very good on this one!! I agree, in case of anymore future spills in his back seat, that he should seal it off its area with silicon, so it will stay dry .
