Why not a 630i with the new sport automatic transmission ?
272 HP (or 300 with some mods) ... lighter ... The same consumption of the 635d ...

1 reason basically the depreciation ,the 635d with the sport auto box i have will retain better, deisels are more sought after in uk,because of that,
i test drove both and believe me the deisel over performed on petrol in the real world.especially on rural roads that i drive.overtaking at traffic speeds on short country roads give me the 635d.
try before you buy. and dont believe the paperwork propaganda.

thanks for all nice comments, still getting used to a non black 5 in the drive,
but i can tell you this 6 makes you want to drive it hard, just begging to press the gas pedal all the time,...trying to restrain and getting used to the feel now.

fantastic deal i couldnt miss. px my 10000.535d top dollar price. and it took me out of the rapid depreciation on 5er when the model changes.

thanks, the gear box is totally different than my 535d it is faster selection and seems smoother.the sport option reallly lifts the rev range, infact you feel you want to rev to the limit.sounds more throaty,i havnt really used the paddles as yet other than to pop downshifts when needed,if not used within a short time a few seconds it reverts back to auto.
i believe in sport mode you lose the 6 gear but not sure about this, the consumption drops severly also because the engine is rarely below 2000 revs really a sporty ride, and the steering assist is balanced very well .
i suppose getting used to the change of gear selector initially is "different" before just pushing into drive and off! now the need to glance at the lighted position on the lever seems to be needed.to confirm as the lever springs back to centre position.selecting reverse when needed parking etc can be annoying, but just need to get more familiar.generally much improved and beginning to like the 6.
