whats so bad about the composite/plastic?

its stronger and lighter and easier to make better designs... sounds like a win to me

metal is outdated

I just fealt the fenders of "Lucky645ci" car today. It is that plastic composite stuff. The E90 3 series also uses this type of fender. I personally think it feels cheap compared to the standard metal/aluminum fenders. The other downside it that if you plan on slamming the car and making it tuck past the tire, it will eventually crack the fender.

bumpers have been composite for some time now, so they already meet the standards set for safety...also, use of CFRP bumpers also reduce weight and enhance strength, doesnt need to be a trade off

and keep in mind the worlds fastest and most expensive cars are made heavily of composites, including CFRP remember, its carbon fibre reinforced Plastic

as for slamming 3ers, oh well, it just proves that cars arent designed to be driven as if its in a showroom!

It's a sad sad car that relies on body paneling for any meaningful measure of structural safety. All of the real safety in the 5/6 is in the chassis & beams.
